Pitch Activity Book - What will You Play?
Music Resource Description
"What will You Play?" is an engaging activity book designed to introduce children to the fundamental concepts of music through a delightful and interactive game. Set within a classroom environment, the activity involves children sitting in a circle with two chime bars in the centre, tuned to the notes G and E, which correspond to So and Mi in solfege where C is the tonic (Do). As the children sing a catchy tune while passing a beanbag to the beat, the game focuses on rhythm, melody, and pitch recognition.
When the beanbag lands on a child at the word 'today' in the song, that child takes a turn in the middle of the circle. They are encouraged to play four notes of their choice on the chime bars, aiming to maintain a steady pulse. The rest of the class then actively listens and responds by either singing back the melody while indicating pitch changes with body movements, or by using solfa hand signs to replicate the tune. This playful activity not only hones the children's listening skills but also helps them distinguish between high and low pitches and become familiar with the So Mi interval, all in a fun and supportive group setting.
