Pitch Lesson Plan - Year 2 Lesson 2
Music Resource Description
In the second lesson of a series on pitch for Year 2 students, the primary objective is to deepen the children's understanding of high and low notes, specifically focusing on the pitches So and Mi. The lesson aims to teach the children to sing these notes accurately and even perform solos using them. An additional goal is to help students maintain a steady pulse while singing. A hoop serves as the main resource for this lesson, providing a visual and physical representation of pitch to the students.
The lesson is structured around a series of engaging activities and games, all accompanied by specific tracks. It begins with a warm-up to encourage the children to bring out their best singing voices, followed by singing the register to promote the practice of pitch. The 'Hello Anna' and 'The Introduction Game' activities are designed to help children understand pitch variation and match pitch more accurately. The game '1,2,3,4' is reintroduced with an added dynamic element to explore the effect of volume changes. The 'Rain Rain' chant from the previous lesson is revisited in a variety of vocal styles, including speaking, humming, and singing. Body actions are incorporated to physically connect the children with the concept of high and low notes. The hoop activity is a kinesthetic approach to understanding pitch, where children move the hoop up and down to the melody's pitch changes. The lesson concludes with a plenary where children sing, hum, and think the 'Goodbye Everyone' song, encapsulating the learning in a melodious farewell. The lesson aligns with the National Curriculum, focusing on exploring pitch and using voices expressively through song.
