Pitch Reception Notations - Magic box
Music Resource Description
The "Magic Box" game is an engaging musical activity designed for children, which combines singing with the excitement of discovering hidden treasures. The game is initiated with a rhythmic chant set to a simple melody, where the children sing about a magical box and wonder aloud what could be inside it. As the melody unfolds, the children inquire who possesses the key ring to unlock the box, revealing that it's held by a child named Arvin, who is then encouraged to pass the key ring to the left.
The "Magic Box" itself is an essential prop, filled with a variety of intriguing items. The children sit in a circle and pass the box from one to another, in time with the music. When the singing reaches the word 'box' on the last note, the child holding the box at that moment is granted the opportunity to open it and choose an object. This process is repeated until several children have objects. The game continues with the leader singing questions such as 'who has the keyring?' to which the child with the keyring responds melodically, 'I have the keyring.' The class then echoes the response, melodically affirming who holds the keyring. The leader can direct the children with objects to pass them on with instructions sung to the tune, creating a harmonious and interactive musical game that teaches children about rhythm, melody, and following directions through song.
