Instrumental Activity Book - Hickety Tickety Bumble Bee
Music Resource Description
The "Hickety Tickety Bumble Bee" activity is a charming and interactive game from an Instrumental Activity Book designed to engage children in learning rhythm and pulse while also practicing their names. In the non-instrumental version of the game, children sit in a circle and pass a beanbag while chanting the phrase "Hickety tickety bumble bee, can you say your name for me?" The child holding the beanbag says their name in rhythm, and the group repeats the name in response. The beanbag is then passed to the next child in sync with the chant, "pass it on." This game can be varied by using puppets, where children adopt different voices for their puppets, and the group responds in kind, even without the passing of a beanbag.
In the instrumental variation, each child has a percussion instrument that they tap in time with the chant. After chanting "Hickety tickety bumble bee, can you say your name for me?" the first child taps out the syllables of their name, with the group echoing it back. The process is repeated with each child in the circle, line, or group. This activity not only introduces children to musical concepts but also helps with the recognition and vocalisation of syllables in their names. The activity may require some guidance from the teacher in helping children break down their names into syllables. Both versions of the game are designed to be fun and educational, enhancing the children's listening and rhythmic skills.
