Instrumental Year 1 Notations - Buster buster instrumental
Music Resource Description
The "Buster Buster" instrumental activity is a vibrant and engaging exercise for Year 1 students, designed to combine music and movement in a classroom setting. The notation provided guides the rhythm of the chant, with each symbol (Û) representing a beat. The lyrics, "Buster, Buster climb a tree," "Buster Buster slap your knee," "Buster, Buster blow a kiss," and "Buster, Buster do not miss!" are accompanied by corresponding actions—climbing imaginary branches, slapping knees, blowing kisses, and pointing a finger, each done four times in sync with the rhythm of the chant.
For the non-instrumental version of the activity, children are taught the rhyme along with the actions, which are repeated four times each. Once they are familiar with the rhyme, they are encouraged to recite it silently in their heads while still performing the actions, adding an element of challenge by only vocalizing the last three words, "do not miss." In the instrumental version, the class is split into two groups, each provided with different instruments such as claves and shakers. One group plays their instruments on the words "Buster, Buster," while the other group plays on all the action words. The activity can be performed with the chant spoken aloud or with the children using their 'thinking voices,' and ends with an enthusiastic shout of "Do not miss!" This interactive exercise not only teaches rhythm and coordination but also encourages listening skills and collaborative performance.
