Instrumental Activity Book - Have You Bought Your Talking Voice?
Music Resource Description
The "Have You Bought Your Talking Voice?" activity is an engaging and interactive exercise included in an instrumental activity book, designed to encourage children to explore different vocal expressions. This call and response chant is ideal for experimenting with various types of voices, such as talking, whispering, louder, sad, excited, silent, and singing voices. The leader of the activity chooses a voice and poses the question, to which the children respond in the same manner. This playful interaction not only fosters vocal awareness but also enhances listening skills and the ability to mimic sounds.
In addition to vocal exploration, the activity incorporates an instrumental response game that divides the children into four groups, each equipped with a different type of instrument: tappers, shakers, scrapers, and bells. The chant is adapted to each instrument, asking if the children have brought their 'tapping', 'shaky', 'scrapy', or 'tinkly' voice, respectively. The children respond by playing their instruments in time with the chant, reinforcing their ability to associate sounds with actions and to maintain rhythm. For an added challenge, the extension activity introduces the concept of 'thinking voices', where the leader plays an instrument and the children with matching instruments respond accordingly, further developing their musical skills and cognitive recognition of sounds.
