Instrumental Activity Book - Buster Buster
Music Resource Description
The "Buster Buster" activity is a lively and engaging exercise from an Instrumental Activity Book, designed to combine music and movement for children. The rhyme involves a series of actions, such as climbing a tree, slapping your knee, blowing a kiss, and pointing a finger, each to be performed four times in sync with the rhythm of the chant. The simplicity of the words and actions makes it easy for children to memorize and perform, encouraging participation and coordination.
There are two versions of the "Buster Buster" activity: non-instrumental and instrumental. In the non-instrumental version, children are taught the rhyme along with the corresponding actions, which they repeat four times each. Once they are familiar with the routine, they can challenge themselves by reciting the rhyme silently in their heads while continuing the actions. To maintain interest, all words can be internalised except for the climactic phrase "do not miss." The instrumental version adds another layer of complexity and fun. Children are divided into two groups, each provided with different instruments such as claves and shakers. One group plays their instruments on the words "Buster, Buster," while the other group accompanies the action words. This can be performed while chanting aloud or using 'thinking voices,' culminating in a unison exclamation of "Do not miss!" at the end of the rhyme.
