Singing Games Lesson Plan - Reception Lesson 5
Music Resource Description
The Reception class embarks on an exciting musical adventure with Lesson 5 of the Singing Games series, where the young learners are encouraged to dive deeper into the world of rhythm and melody. The lesson is structured to achieve several learning objectives, including engaging with familiar and new games, chanting and singing from memory, moving in time with a steady pulse, and exhibiting creativity within the games. The children will revisit the game 'Mrs Macaroni' from the previous session and are introduced to two new games, 'Let Us Chase the Squirrels' and 'The Cookie Jar', which are designed to enhance their musical skills and imagination.
During 'Let Us Chase the Squirrels', children are grouped in threes to act out the roles of trees and squirrels, with 'robber squirrels' waiting to pounce into the game. This activity encourages teamwork and coordination as they sway and move to the rhythm of the song. 'The Cookie Jar' game is a rhythmic chant that prompts children to respond to cues and come up with creative reasons for their innocence in a playful theft of a cookie. The plenary includes the songs 'I Wiggle My Fingers' and 'Goodbye Everyone', wrapping up the session on a joyful note. Teachers can assess the children's listening and rhythmic skills during 'The Cookie Jar', while detailed instructions and teaching tips for these activities are provided in the 'notations' and 'TEACHER NOTES' sections of the lesson plan.
