Singing Games Lesson Plan - Reception Lesson 2
Music Resource Description
The second lesson for Reception in the Singing Games series aims to further engage young learners with both familiar and new musical activities. The lesson's objectives are to encourage children to participate in singing games, memorise simple songs, use their imagination and improvisation skills, and respond to musical cues with appropriate actions in time with a steady beat. The key vocabulary for this lesson includes words like 'sing', 'walk', 'jump', and 'memorise', which are integral to the learning experience.
During the lesson, children will partake in a variety of main activities starting with 'COPY ME', where they mimic a sequence of actions set to a regular pulse, fostering their ability to keep time and follow instructions. They will then learn and play the game 'HOP LITTLE RABBITS', which encourages imaginative movement and choice, as they pretend to be different animals and remember to stop moving when the music cues them to. Another activity is 'LITTLE RABBIT FOO FOO', a circle game that combines singing with cue word actions, culminating in the children pretending to be turned to stone. A soft pom pom is used as a gentle prop by the teacher to 'wake' the children from their stone state. Lastly, 'WILLIAM HE HAD SEVEN SONS' is introduced, leveraging the 'COPY ME' exercise to help children think of actions when it's their turn to perform. The lesson concludes with a plenary game from the previous session, 'JUMP JIM JO', to reinforce memory and recall of past activities.
