Singing Games Lesson Plan - Reception Lesson 4
Music Resource Description
The Reception class embarks on their fourth lesson of Singing Games with a set of learning objectives aimed at enhancing their engagement with both familiar and new singing games. The children are encouraged to follow cue words and instructions, create and remember sequences of actions, and dance within a musical time frame. A key focus of the lesson is to continue practicing pitch-matching on two notes. The vocabulary for this lesson includes terms such as 'sing', 'turns', 'leader', 'copy', and 'memorise', which are integral to the activities planned.
During the main activities, the children will play the game 'William He Had Seven Sons' and learn a new game called 'Mrs Macaroni', which helps develop friendship skills through celebratory dance and clapping. Another game, 'Here I Come', requires the children to start on a specific musical note (G is suggested) and is useful for assessing pitch-matching skills. The plenary involves a wind-down with the song 'I Wiggle My Fingers' and concludes with 'Goodbye Everyone'. Teachers are guided to refer to the 'notations' for detailed instructions on the games and are provided with tips to maintain a round circle during 'Mrs Macaroni'. The lesson also includes assessment opportunities to observe the children's ability to think of actions, maintain a steady pulse, walk in time, and match pitch when singing.
