Singing Games Activity Book - The Muffin Man

The Muffin Man is a delightful singing game activity that encourages children to stand in a circle and engage in a musical interaction. The game starts with one child selecting a peer and singing the question, "Do you know the Muffin Man?" to which the chosen child responds affirmatively. Following this exchange, both children enter the centre of the circle, join hands, and dance while the rest of the group sings, "Two of us know the Muffin Man." This pattern continues as the two children in the centre each choose new partners, doubling the number of participants in the centre each time, with the group adapting their singing to "Four of us know the Muffin Man," and so on, potentially increasing to "Eight of us know..." and "Sixteen of us know..." depending on the number of children playing.

As the game progresses and more children join the inner circle, they eventually turn to face those still in the outer circle and collectively sing, "Do you know the Muffin Man?" The outer circle responds in unison, "Yes we know the Muffin Man," at which point the inner circle rejoins the outer circle, forming one large ring. To conclude the game, all participants dance around together while joyfully singing, "We all know the Muffin Man." This game is not only fun but also fosters a sense of community and rhythm among the children as they sing and dance together.
