Singing Games Activity Book - Shoo Fly
Music Resource Description
The "Shoo Fly" activity is a delightful singing game found in an activity book, perfect for engaging children in a fun and interactive circle game. Participants form a circle by holding hands, with two taller children creating an arch and two others appointed as leaders, positioned directly opposite the arch. Initially, everyone stands holding hands without any movement from the arch or the leaders. As the song "Shoo Fly" commences, the children are instructed to take four small steps towards the circle's centre and then four steps back out, repeating this motion in tune with the song's lyrics.
During the "I FEEL..." part of the song, the children forming the arch lift the hand they are already holding upwards, creating a high archway, while still remaining connected to their neighbours. The leaders begin to move towards the arch, followed in an orderly fashion by the rest of the children, ensuring they walk carefully behind the person in front without breaking hands. Once everyone has passed through the arch, they expand outward to form an inside-out circle, with the arch turning to align with the others. The second part of the game mirrors the first but in reverse order, with participants walking back and forth through the arch, eventually turning the circle back to its original formation. Depending on the group size, the "I FEEL" segment may be repeated to ensure all children can participate fully. The game concludes with a unifying gesture of raising linked hands in the air, celebrating the joy of togetherness and song.
