Singing Games Activity Book - I Let Her Go-go
Music Resource Description
The "I Let Her Go-go" singing game is a lively activity designed for children to enjoy while standing in a circle, facing their partners. To play this game successfully, it's essential to have an even number of participants. Before starting, children are introduced to the concept of changing partners. They practice this by shaking hands with the person they're facing, then moving past them, shoulder to shoulder, to greet a new partner with a handshake. Once the children are comfortable with this partner-changing mechanic, the game becomes much more straightforward to conduct.
During the game, the song "I Let Her Go-go" is sung, and the children engage in a series of clapping and movement actions in time with the lyrics. When they sing the words 'go go', they start by clapping their partner's hands twice, followed by clapping their own hands. They then hold hands with their partner to change places on the next 'go', and clap their partner's hands again on the subsequent 'go's'. The final 'go' is marked by a jump, turning 180 degrees to face a new partner, and the game carries on with the new pairing. Additional activities include singing and clapping hands, playing claves, or tapping rhythms to the song, each adding a different musical layer to the game. There's also a ball game variation, where children pass a ball in time with the music, aiming to maintain a steady pulse and keep the game flowing without errors.
