Singing Games Lesson Plan - Year 4 Lesson 5
Music Resource Description
Year 4 students are set to enhance their vocal talents and movement coordination in Lesson 5 of the Singing Games series. The learning objectives are multifaceted, focusing on singing with melodic and rhythmic precision, mastering cue word actions, moving in time with music, improvising actions to a steady beat, and developing the ability to internalise rhythms and melodies. Key musical terms such as melody, pulse, rhythm, phrase, verse, and improvise will be central to the students' learning and understanding throughout the lesson.
The main activities of the lesson are engaging and dynamic, starting with 'OATS AND BEANS AND BARLEY GROW', an accumulative circle game that encourages imagination and quick response to cue word actions, fostering listening skills. Next, 'TWO FINE LADIES FROM TENNESSEE' is introduced, a line game that teaches children the do-si-do movement before diving into the full routine. The lesson then progresses to 'TONY CHESTNUT', where children are challenged to internalise the words of the game gradually, focusing solely on the actions. The plenary features 'GOODBYE MARY', a game that serves as a melodic conclusion to the session. These activities are designed to meet the National Curriculum requirements for music, which include group singing, vocal control, understanding of musical elements, and improvisation skills.
