Spelling - Home learning - Sound oy
English Resource Description
For home learning, students are presented with differentiated spelling lists that focus on the "oy" sound. These lists are aimed at reinforcing the students' ability to spell words containing this specific sound pattern. Each list includes a set of words such as 'joy', 'toy', 'boy', 'ahoy', 'soya', and extends to more complex words like 'joyful', 'annoy', 'royalty', 'destroys', and 'loyalty'. To further challenge the students, there is a challenge word provided: 'annoyingly'. Blank boxes are available for additional words to be added, tailoring the learning to the child's individual needs.
The "Look, Say, Cover, Write, and Check" method is employed as an effective strategy for practicing these spellings. This technique encourages students to study the word ('Look'), pronounce it ('Say'), cover it and then attempt to write it from memory ('Write'), and finally, to check their attempt against the original ('Check'). Any errors can be noted in the 'Correction' column for further review. Additionally, there are exercises for 'Read and Match' where students can match words to pictures and even write sentences using the words they've learned. For a fun twist, a 'Real and Nonsense words' activity is included, where students identify real words with the 'oy' sound and use them in sentences, while marking the nonsense words to further enhance their phonetic and decoding skills.
