Spelling - Home learning - Sound ou
English Resource Description
For home learning, students are focusing on the 'ou' sound and its usage in various words. The differentiated spelling lists provided include a selection of words that incorporate this sound, ensuring that learners can practise and reinforce their understanding. Words such as 'out', 'mouth', 'shout', and 'mouse' are part of the core list, with more complex words like 'crouch', 'blouse', 'slouch', 'bounce', 'count', and 'lounge' offering additional challenge. To extend learning further, there is a 'challenge word': 'scrounge', which students can attempt once they are confident with the initial list. Blank boxes are also available for educators to add any extra words they wish to include in the students' learning.
The 'Look, Say, Cover, Write, and Check' method is employed as an effective strategy to help students memorise their spelling words. This technique involves looking at the word, saying it aloud, covering it, attempting to write it from memory, and then checking to see if it was written correctly. Corrections can be made in the space provided. Additionally, there are activities where students can 'Read and Match' the words to reinforce their learning, and they are encouraged to use the words in sentences to demonstrate their understanding. For a fun twist, a 'Real and Nonsense words' game challenges students to identify the real words with the 'ou' sound and use them in sentences, while marking the made-up words, such as 'ploup' and 'doub', as nonsense by crossing them out.
