For home learning, children are given a set of spelling lists that focus on the 'o-e' sound. These lists include a variety of words that share this common phonetic pattern, such as 'code', 'smoke', 'joke', 'globe', 'home', 'froze', 'vote', 'stroke', 'stove', and 'quote'. Each list comes with a challenge word, 'chose', to extend learning. In addition to the spelling lists, there is a 'Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check' activity, which encourages students to study the word ('Look'), pronounce it ('Say'), cover it and then try to write it from memory ('Write'), and finally, check their spelling ('Check'). Corrections can be made if necessary. This method reinforces spelling skills through repetition and self-testing. Furthermore, the 'Read and Match' activity invites children to match words to pictures or definitions, enhancing their understanding of each word's meaning and context. They are also prompted to use one of the words in a sentence, providing a practical application of their spelling knowledge. To add an element of fun and challenge, there's a 'Real and Nonsense words' game where children need to distinguish between real words and made-up ones, encouraging them to apply their phonetic knowledge in a playful way.
