Children are provided with a selection of differentiated spelling lists focusing on the 'a-e' sound, designed to enhance their understanding and recall of this specific vowel pattern. The lists include words such as 'make', 'behave', 'bake', 'planes', 'cake', 'shapes', 'wave', 'estimate', 'cave', and 'grapes'. Each list also presents a 'challenge word' for the more advanced learners, which in this case is 'translate'. Additionally, blank boxes are available for educators to include any extra words they deem necessary for the children to practice.

To reinforce learning at home, the 'Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check' method is encouraged, which is a systematic approach to spelling practice. This involves looking at the word, saying it aloud, covering it, attempting to write it from memory, and then checking to see if it was written correctly, with space provided for any necessary corrections. Furthermore, the home learning activities include 'Read and Match' exercises where children match words to appropriate images or contexts and are prompted to use one of the words in a sentence of their own creation. For an additional fun challenge, children can distinguish between real and nonsense words containing the 'a-e' sound, identifying the real words and using one in a sentence, while 'popping' the nonsense words by marking them with a cross.
