Instrumental - Year 3 Activity Sheet 3
Music Resource Description
Year 3 students are encouraged to engage with a rhythmic activity sheet, designed to develop their musical timing and coordination. The sheet outlines a series of progressive activities centered around the phrase "FUZZY WUZZY", which they are to follow in sequence, ensuring mastery of each step before advancing to the next.
The first activity, 'CHANT AND CLAP', involves reciting the phrase "FUZZY WUZZY" aloud and clapping during the pauses that follow the words 'FUZZY' and 'WAS 'E?'. Building on this, the second task, 'CHANT AND PLAY CLAVES/INSTRUMENTS', requires the students to play claves or another instrument in the rests after chanting the phrase. In the third activity, the class is divided into two groups; one group taps out the rhythm of the words on the floor, while the other plays claves during the rests, both using 'thinking voices' to internalise the rhythm. The final exercise brings the whole class together to play the rhythm on the floor and the claves during the rests, with a focus on maintaining a consistent beat. One member of the group is assigned to keep a steady pulse to ensure synchronisation. These activities are a practical accompaniment to 'ACTIVE MUSIC YEAR 3 LESSON 5', offering a hands-on approach to learning rhythm in music.
