Instrumental Activity Book - Changing Patterns
Music Resource Description
The 'Changing Patterns' activity sheet is a part of the Instrumental Activity Book designed for Year 6 students, which complements the Active Music Year 6 Lesson 1. This engaging exercise is aimed at enhancing students' musical abilities, particularly their sense of rhythm and memory. The sheet presents a sequence of numbers from 1 to 8, repeated across several lines, which are to be used in a series of rhythmic activities within the music lesson.
Initially, the students are instructed to split into two groups. One group is tasked with vocalising the non-underlined numbers, while the other group focuses on the underlined numbers, both groups counting out loud. This activity utilises a prop sheet to assist students as they begin. As their confidence grows, they are encouraged to perform the sequence from memory, silently counting in their heads rather than aloud. For those seeking a further challenge, there is an extension task where students are to think the non-underlined numbers internally and only play or vocalise the underlined numbers, maintaining a steady pulse throughout. This structured approach allows students to progressively build their internal rhythm and memory skills in a collaborative and interactive setting.
