Instrumental Activity Book - Have You Bought Your Talking Voice?
Music Resource Description
The "Have You Brought Your Talking Voice?" activity is an engaging call and response chant designed to encourage children to explore their vocal abilities in a fun and interactive way. This non-instrumental response chant is perfect for experimenting with a variety of vocal tones, such as talking, whispering, louder, sad, excited, silent, and singing voices. The leader initiates the chant by asking a question in a chosen voice, prompting the children to respond in the same manner. This playful exchange helps develop vocal control and recognition of different voice types among young learners.
Complementing the vocal exercise is an instrumental response game that divides children into four groups, each equipped with a different set of instruments: tappers, shakers, scrapers, and bells. Each group is associated with a 'voice'—tapping, shaky, scrapy, and tinkly respectively. When the leader asks a question related to a specific 'voice', the corresponding group responds by playing their instruments in rhythm, while verbally affirming, 'Yes we have, yes we have'. This game not only enhances children's rhythmic skills but also their ability to listen and respond promptly. An extension of this activity involves using 'thinking voices', where the leader plays an instrument and the children echo back, fostering attentive listening and coordination.
