Instrumental Year 3 Notations - Who will be next instrumental
Music Resource Description
"Who Will Be Next?" is an engaging musical game designed for Year 3 students to encourage improvisation and build confidence in playing instruments. The activity involves a simple chant set to a sequence of musical notes B, A, G, which the children sing while sitting in a circle. At the centre of the circle, two xylophones or chime bar sets are placed opposite each other, with a pair of beaters for each instrument. As the chant is sung, a beanbag is passed around to the rhythm of the music.
The game unfolds as the child holding the beanbag on the final word 'next' selects a partner, and they both sit in front of the instruments to have a 'musical conversation.' They take turns improvising melodies on the xylophones or chime bars, exploring the sounds they can create, including playing two notes simultaneously. Another child is given a cymbal or bell to signal when it's time for the players to stop, at which point the game continues with the next pair. This playful activity not only helps children practice their musical skills but also teaches them that there is no wrong way to express themselves musically, promoting creativity and self-expression.
