Pitch Lesson Plan - Year 4 Lesson 6
Music Resource Description
In this Year 4 music lesson, the primary objective is to enhance the students' ability to play pentatonic melodies on tuned instruments with rhythmic precision. The lesson aims to develop their skills in both group and solo performances, as well as in composing their own rhythm and pitch notations. The key musical terms that will be a focus in this lesson include pulse, rhythm, and the solfège syllables La, So, Mi, Re, and Do. To facilitate the learning process, resources such as chime bars in the notes A, G, E, D, and C, a whiteboard with a pen, and optional stave notation worksheets will be used.
The main activities of the lesson involve notating and revising the song 'WE WILL COPY YOU', followed by the creation of a chime bar orchestra where students are divided into groups, each responsible for a different note. The lesson progresses through singing, playing, and eventually thinking and playing their assigned notes, with a backing track to aid the process. Students will then have the opportunity to compose their own patterns for the orchestra to play, and perform them in front of their peers, receiving feedback on their timing, coordination, and music reading skills. For those who are ready for a more challenging task, stave notation worksheets are available to encourage composition using standard musical notation. The lesson concludes with a plenary activity involving the song 'GOODBYE EVERYONE', which incorporates singing, thinking, and whispering. This lesson aligns with the National Curriculum, focusing on singing, musical notation, performance, and composition involving pitch and duration.
