Spelling - Home learning - Sound ear
English Resource Description
For home learning, students are provided with differentiated spelling lists focusing on the sound 'ear'. These lists include a variety of words such as 'beard', 'bear', 'fearful', 'near', 'tearful', 'tear', 'wearing', 'fear', and 'cleared', with 'appearance' as a challenge word. Each list offers blank boxes for any additional words that educators may wish to include for further learning. The objective is for children to become proficient in spelling these words through practice at home.
One of the key methods employed for learning these words is the 'Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check' technique. This approach encourages students to study the word, say it aloud, cover it, attempt to write it from memory, and then check their attempt against the original spelling. Corrections can be made if necessary. Additionally, there are 'Read and Match' exercises where students match words to pictures and use them in sentences, enhancing both their spelling and creative writing skills. For further engagement, a 'Real and Nonsense words' activity is included, where students identify real words, use them in sentences, and mark the made-up words, helping to distinguish between actual vocabulary and nonsensical combinations.
