Spelling - Home learning - Sound air
English Resource Description
For home learning, children are provided with differentiated spelling lists that focus on the sound 'air'. These lists are designed to help students practice and reinforce their understanding of this particular phoneme. The spelling lists include a variety of words such as 'air', 'chair', 'fair', 'pair', and 'hair', alongside more challenging words like 'dairy', 'despair', 'airport', 'staircase', and 'unfair'. Additionally, there is a challenge word for each list: 'hairstylist'. Blank boxes are available for any extra words educators wish to add for the children to learn.
The 'Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check' method is introduced as an effective strategy for learning these words. This technique encourages students to carefully observe the word ('Look'), pronounce it ('Say'), hide it and try to remember it ('Cover'), attempt to write it from memory ('Write'), and finally, compare their attempt to the correct spelling ('Check'). Any errors can be noted in the 'Correction' column. Furthermore, the 'Read and Match' activity provides an engaging way for children to connect words with the 'air' sound to their meanings. They are also encouraged to use these words in context by writing sentences of their own. For an additional fun exercise, children can distinguish between real and nonsense words containing the 'air' sound, enhancing their phonemic awareness and decoding skills.
