Spelling - Home learning - Sound ar
English Resource Description
For home learning, children are provided with a set of spelling lists focused on the 'ar' sound. The lists include words like 'car', 'arctic', 'bar', 'start', 'star', 'arcade', 'card', 'armband', 'art', and 'charm', with 'carwash' as a challenge word. To make the learning process dynamic, there are blank boxes accompanying the lists where additional words can be added to tailor the learning experience. This approach not only reinforces the 'ar' sound but also expands the students' vocabulary.
To aid in the retention of these spellings, the "Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check" method is employed. This technique encourages students to study the word ('Look'), pronounce it ('Say'), cover it to test memory ('Cover'), write it down ('Write'), and then finally check their attempt against the original word ('Check'). To further enhance their understanding, students are prompted to 'Read and Match' the words to their correct pairs and use them in sentences, thereby applying their knowledge in a practical context. Additionally, an exercise on distinguishing between real and nonsense words is included, where students can identify and use real 'ar' sounding words in sentences and mark the nonsense words, helping to develop their ability to differentiate between actual words and phonetically similar non-words.
