Spelling - Home learning - Sound ng
English Resource Description
For home learning, children are focusing on the 'ng' sound, an essential phonetic component in English spelling. To support their learning, differentiated spelling lists have been provided, each featuring a series of words that incorporate the 'ng' sound, such as 'bang', 'ring', 'king', 'song', and 'wing'. To further challenge the students, a challenge word 'stitching' is included. Blank boxes are available for adding any additional words that may be beneficial for the children to learn. This tailored approach allows for a personalised learning experience that can be adjusted to meet individual needs.
The 'Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check' method is a structured approach to reinforce spelling skills. Children are encouraged to look at the word, say it aloud, cover it, write it from memory, and then check to see if they have spelled it correctly. This technique helps to build confidence and improve memory retention of the spelling of words. In addition to this method, the 'Read and Match' activity provides an interactive way for children to engage with the 'ng' sound words. They are also prompted to use their creativity by writing sentences with the words they have learned. For a fun twist, the 'Real and Nonsense words' exercise allows children to distinguish between real words containing the 'ng' sound and made-up words, further enhancing their phonetic skills and understanding of word structures.
