Know it! - Materials - Year 1

The educational resource from Focus Education aims to help Year 1 students identify and describe common materials found in their surroundings. The "Know it!" section poses a simple yet fundamental question: "What are the materials that are around us called?" This question forms the basis for a series of engaging retrieval tasks designed to reinforce the children's understanding and recall of different materials.

The activities include a "Cops and robbers" game where students have a set time to write down everything they remember about materials, followed by a chance to 'steal' ideas from their peers to enhance their own lists. Further exercises challenge the children to match materials such as glass, metal, brick, wood, and plastic with their corresponding descriptions, like "It is used to create windows in houses" or "It comes from trees".
