Cops and robbers - What do you know about materials?

In an interactive classroom activity titled 'Cops and robbers', pupils are challenged to engage with their existing knowledge about materials in a dynamic and collaborative way. Initially, they are given two minutes to jot down everything they can remember about materials on their own. This phase encourages students to recall prior learning and set the foundation for the activity. The 'own recalled knowledge' column on their table serves as a personal brainstorming area where they list their independent ideas.

Following this, the 'robbers' aspect of the game comes into play. Students have 60 seconds to 'steal' ideas from up to three of their peers. During this time, they can look at other children's answers and note down any new or additional information in the 'stolen knowledge' column of their table. This part of the activity not only makes learning fun but also promotes sharing of information and peer learning. Each plausible statement written down, whether from their own memory or 'stolen' from others, is awarded two points. The entire activity is designed to last 15 minutes, providing a quick-paced and engaging way for students to review and expand their understanding of materials around them.
