Show it! Group presentation - North America - Year 6

In a Year 6 educational setting, pupils are encouraged to explore and present their understanding of North America's diverse geographical features and cultural aspects. Towards the end of their learning journey, children are given the chance to showcase their knowledge through presentations to their classmates. This exercise not only reinforces their learning but also hones their public speaking and presentation skills. The presentations can be executed in various formats, and sometimes staff may assist by preparing a PowerPoint summarising the ongoing learning for a more structured sharing session.

Children are organised into small groups, with no more than six members, to collaborate on their presentations. They are presented with a range of topics to choose from, allowing them to dive deeper into specific areas that interest them. These topics include the exploration of major cities in the USA, the natural resources that contribute to the country's wealth, and the cultural and economic landscapes of neighbouring countries like Mexico and Canada. Other groups may focus on the history and impact of immigration or analyse the factors that have propelled the USA into its position as a wealthy nation. Each group's presentation serves as a platform to answer the question, "What do we know about North America and what are its main geographical features?" and is an opportunity for pupils to engage with and educate one another about this vast and varied continent.
