Spelling - Home learning - Sound short ea
English Resource Description
For home learning, students are focusing on mastering the short 'ea' sound through a variety of spelling activities. The differentiated spelling lists include words such as 'head', 'breath', 'read', 'feather', and 'dead', among others. Each list concludes with a challenge word, 'breakfast', to stretch the pupils' abilities. To personalise the learning experience, blank boxes are provided for educators or parents to add any additional words that they want the children to practice.
One of the key techniques used to reinforce spelling is the 'Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check' method. This approach encourages students to study the word ('Look'), pronounce it ('Say'), hide the word and try to remember it ('Cover'), attempt to write it from memory ('Write'), and then compare their attempt to the correct spelling ('Check'), making note of any errors ('Correction'). This method is applied to the provided spelling lists, which are divided into two sets for focused practice. Additionally, the 'Read and Match' activity prompts children to use the words in context by writing sentences, and the 'Real and Nonsense words' task helps them to distinguish between actual words and fabricated ones, enhancing their understanding of the 'ea' sound.
