Spelling - Home learning - Sound K
English Resource Description
For home learning, students are provided with differentiated spelling lists focusing on the sound 'k'. These lists include a selection of words that either begin with 'k' or contain the sound within them. Words such as 'Kent', 'kill', 'kit', 'skin', 'kiss', and 'sketch' are part of the practice, with 'kennel' serving as a challenge word. Blank boxes are also available for any additional words educators wish to include, offering a tailored learning experience for each child.
The 'Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check' method is employed to reinforce learning. This technique encourages students to study the word ('Look'), pronounce it ('Say'), cover it up and try to remember it ('Cover'), attempt to write it from memory ('Write'), and then compare their attempt to the correct spelling ('Check'), making any necessary corrections ('Correction'). Additionally, activities such as 'Read and Match' and sentence writing with both real and nonsense words are included to further engage students with the 'k' sound. They are prompted to write sentences using their spelling words and to identify nonsense words, enhancing their understanding of word structures and phonics.
