Spelling - Home learning - Sound ore
English Resource Description
For home learning, students are presented with a series of spelling lists focused on the 'ore' sound. Each list includes a variety of words that incorporate this sound, such as 'core', 'chore', 'bore', 'score', 'tore', 'before', 'more', 'store', 'sore', and 'adore'. To add an extra layer of challenge, the word 'boredom' is included as a challenge word. Blank boxes are provided for the addition of any further words that the teacher may wish the children to learn.
The 'Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check' method is employed as an effective strategy for practicing these spellings. This technique encourages students to look at the word, say it aloud, cover it, attempt to write it from memory, and then check their attempt against the correct spelling, making any necessary corrections. Additionally, students are invited to engage with the words through a 'Read and Match' activity, where they match words to appropriate sentences, and are prompted to write their own sentences using the words provided. For a fun twist, a 'Real and Nonsense words' exercise challenges students to identify real words from a mix, use them in a sentence, and mark the nonsense words, enhancing their ability to discern word patterns and meanings.
