Cops and robbers - What do you know about wood?
Science Resource Description
"Cops and Robbers" is an engaging classroom activity designed to test and expand pupils' knowledge about wood. In this exercise, students are given two minutes to jot down everything they can recall about wood in a column labeled 'Own recalled knowledge'. Once the time is up, the game becomes more dynamic as they have 60 seconds to 'steal' information from their peers. During this brief window, they can view the answers of up to three other children and add any new information to the 'Stolen knowledge' column on the right side of their table. Each plausible statement they write down is worth two points. The entire activity is allocated 15 minutes, encouraging quick thinking and learning from one another, as they explore the topic: How do we make the most of the materials around us?
The "Cops and Robbers" activity not only makes learning about wood and its uses interactive but also promotes collaboration and sharing of knowledge among pupils. The format of the game incentivizes students to recall their own understanding while also benefiting from the collective knowledge of the class. This approach helps to reinforce their existing knowledge and introduces them to new facts and perspectives they may not have considered, all within a fun and competitive setting. By the end of the activity, students will have a more comprehensive view of wood as a material and how it can be utilized effectively.
