Cops and robbers - What do you know about keeping healthy?
Science Resource Description
The 'Cops and Robbers' activity is an engaging classroom exercise designed to encourage students to recall and share their knowledge about maintaining good health. Initially, pupils are given two minutes to jot down everything they can remember about how to keep healthy, listing their ideas under the 'Own recalled knowledge' column. This quick-paced task stimulates their memory and allows them to independently reflect on what they have previously learned about health and wellbeing.
Following this, the students enter the 'robbers' phase of the activity, where they have 60 seconds to 'steal' ideas from their peers. They are permitted to view up to three other children's answers and add any new information they gather to the 'Stolen knowledge' column on their own table. This interactive segment not only makes learning fun but also fosters collaboration and the sharing of knowledge. Each plausible statement they write down is awarded two points, incentivising them to think critically about what constitutes healthy practices. The entire activity lasts 15 minutes, concluding with a discussion on why it is important to keep our bodies healthy, thus reinforcing the significance of the topic.
