Senses Vocab - Assessment
Science Resource Description
The assessment provided is a vocabulary exercise aimed at evaluating a student's understanding of words related to the five senses. The words listed include 'sense', 'touch', 'skin', 'ears', 'hearing', 'sound', 'tongue', 'taste', 'sight', 'seeing', 'eye', 'smell', 'nose', and 'feel'. Students are asked to categorise each word based on their level of knowledge. The categories are: 'I don’t know it', where the student is unfamiliar with the word; 'I know what it means', indicating the student understands the word's definition; and 'I can use it in a sentence', which demonstrates the student's ability to apply the word in context, showing a deeper grasp of its usage.
This vocabulary assessment is designed to be repeated, allowing for tracking of progress over time. As students become more familiar with the words and their meanings, they should be able to move them from the 'I don’t know it' category, through to 'I know what it means', and eventually to 'I can use it in a sentence'. This progression indicates not only an expanding vocabulary but also an increased ability to communicate effectively using these terms. The exercise not only tests recognition and meaning but also encourages the practical application of vocabulary in spoken or written language.
