Five a Day - FDP - Add and subtract fractions
Maths Resource Description
KS2Gems has developed a Maths Five a Day resource for practising addition and subtraction of fractions, tailored to reflect the style of questions found in SATs papers. This particular set, labelled F4, presents five questions that challenge students to apply their knowledge of fractions in various contexts. The resource is designed to be used as a warm-up or retrieval practice activity, helping students to refresh their understanding of fraction concepts. Each question is followed by an answer slide to provide immediate feedback and facilitate self-assessment.
The questions range from identifying unshaded portions of rectangles in fraction form to completing sequences of fractions that increase or decrease by a consistent amount. For example, students might be asked to determine what fraction of a rectangle remains unshaded when certain parts are coloured in. In another task, they are required to fill in missing fractions to complete an arithmetic sequence or to find the missing numbers that make a fraction addition or subtraction equation correct. These exercises are designed to reinforce the understanding of fraction equivalence, addition, and subtraction, which are crucial skills in the Key Stage 2 maths curriculum.
