Show it! - Energy - Year 3
Geography Resource Description
In a vibrant and interactive Year 3 classroom, children explore the pivotal question, "How do we energise our homes and country?" As part of their learning journey on energy, students are encouraged to consolidate and showcase their understanding towards the end of the unit. This culminates in an opportunity for the children to present their findings and insights to their peers, which not only reinforces their knowledge but also hones their presentation skills. Presentations can take various forms, and sometimes the teaching staff facilitate this process by preparing a PowerPoint presentation that captures the ongoing learning, which is then shared with the entire class.
Emphasising collaborative learning, the children are organised into small groups, with a maximum of six members in each. These groups are tasked with creating presentations on diverse energy-related topics. The range of topics includes solar energy, imagining a world without electricity, the role of fossil fuels, and the process of coal mining. By delving into these subjects, the students are encouraged to engage critically with the sources of energy that power their homes and the wider country. "Show it!" becomes the rallying cry for the children to step forward and confidently declare, "Good Morning, I would like to tell you about…" as they initiate their presentations, ready to enlighten their classmates with their newfound knowledge on energy.
