How do we energise our homes and country - activity
Geography Resource Description
In an interactive geography lesson about energy, students are encouraged to 'Speak like an expert', an activity designed to consolidate their understanding of how homes and countries are energised. During this exercise, pupils take turns to explain to their partners the various energy sources they have learned about, aiming to incorporate as many facts as possible into a one-minute presentation. This not only tests their knowledge but also their ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely.
The topics covered in this activity span a range of energy types, each with its own point value, reflecting their complexity or relevance. Students may discuss conventional sources like electricity, gas, and oil, which are fundamental to understanding the current energy mix. Renewable sources such as solar energy, wind turbines, and solar panels are also on the agenda, highlighting the shift towards sustainable energy practices. Advanced concepts like generators, nuclear energy, and kinetic energy offer a deeper dive into how energy is produced and harnessed. After presenting, each student receives a score out of ten from their partner, providing immediate peer feedback on their expertise and presentation skills.
