Types of energy - assessment
Geography Resource Description
In an assessment designed to test knowledge on energy types, students are given a task to recall and list five different forms of energy. This individual activity encourages the use of keywords and allows for a focus on memory rather than sentence construction. Students are incentivised with a scoring system, where each correct type of energy noted earns them two points. They are allocated a 15-minute timeframe to complete this task, and interestingly, accurate spelling is not a requirement for this exercise. This approach eases the pressure on students, allowing them to concentrate solely on demonstrating their understanding of the subject matter.
Another component of the assessment delves into the practical applications of electricity within the household. Pupils are tasked with identifying ten different ways electricity is used at home. This individual activity also follows the same scoring system, with each correct use of electricity equating to two points. A time limit of 15 minutes is set for this task as well, and once again, spelling accuracy is not a priority. This task not only assesses the students' knowledge but also helps them to become more aware of the significance of electricity in daily life and its various applications in energising our homes and country.
