Cops and Robbers - What do you know about plants? - Plants - Year 2
Science Resource Description
In an interactive and engaging lesson aimed at Year 2 students, the topic of discussion is the requirements for plants and trees to grow healthily. The activity, titled "Cops and Robbers," prompts children to explore and share their knowledge about plants. Initially, pupils are given two minutes to jot down everything they can recall about what plants need to thrive. This exercise encourages them to draw upon their own understanding and memory, recording their ideas in a column designated for their 'own recalled knowledge'.
Following this, the activity takes an exciting turn as the 'robbers' aspect comes into play. Students are given 60 seconds to 'steal' knowledge from their peers. During this brief period, they can consult up to three other classmates' work, borrowing ideas to enhance their own list. Any additional information they gather is then added to the 'stolen knowledge' section on the right side of their table. Each plausible statement about plant growth that they write down earns them two points. The entire activity is designed to last 15 minutes, fostering a fun and dynamic learning environment where children can learn from each other and solidify their understanding of the essentials of plant growth.
