Cops and Robbers - What do you know about trees? - Plants - Year 2
Science Resource Description
In an engaging classroom activity titled 'Cops and Robbers', Year 2 pupils delve into their knowledge of trees and plants. The activity is structured to encourage recall and sharing of information among the students. Initially, they are given two minutes to jot down everything they can remember about trees on their own. This phase of the activity focuses on individual recall and is an opportunity for pupils to demonstrate their understanding of the topic.
Following the individual recall, the game becomes more interactive as pupils are given 60 seconds to 'steal' ideas from their peers. They are allowed to view and borrow information from up to three other children's answers, writing these new insights to the right of their table. This collaborative element not only makes the learning process more dynamic but also allows for a broader exchange of knowledge. Each plausible statement that a pupil writes down, whether from their own memory or 'stolen' from a classmate, is worth two points. The entire activity is designed to last 15 minutes, providing a quick-paced and stimulating way for pupils to explore and expand their understanding of what plants and trees need to grow healthily.
