Picture match - Underground, on the ground, in trees
Science Resource Description
The 'Picture Match' activity is designed to educate students on the various natural habitats where animals can be found, including underground, on the ground, and in trees. The task involves matching numbered pictures of animals with the corresponding category of their habitat. Each correct match earns the students two points, incentivising them to think carefully about where each animal is most likely to reside. Participants are given a ten-minute window to complete the exercise, making it a brisk and engaging educational challenge.
This activity not only tests students' knowledge of animal habitats but also encourages them to ponder the reasons behind animals' habitat choices. By considering the unique adaptations and needs of different species, learners can gain insight into why certain animals are suited to life underground, such as burrowing mammals or insects, while others thrive on the ground, like many mammals and reptiles, or in the trees, like birds and some primates. Understanding these natural habitats helps students appreciate the diversity of life and the importance of each environment in supporting its inhabitants.
