Rhythm and Pulse Lesson Plan - Reception Lesson 6
Music Resource Description
In Reception Lesson 6 of the Rhythm & Pulse series, young learners are encouraged to deepen their understanding and practice of rhythm, pulse, and inner hearing through engaging action games and group performances. The primary learning objectives are to continue participating in rhythmic activities and to collectively chant a well-known verse while maintaining a steady pulse. Key vocabulary for this lesson includes 'rhythm' and 'pulse', which are essential concepts in music education.
The lesson is packed with interactive activities, starting with the game 'Early in the Morning', followed by 'Grandma Grandma', and revisiting the chant 'Bee, Bee, Bumble Bee'. Children will chant, clap, and perform the 'Bee, Bee, Bumble Bee' chant in groups, focusing on starting, continuing, and finishing together in time with a consistent pulse. The teacher will then appraise the performance, providing an opportunity for the children to self-assess and for the instructor to gauge each child's confidence and ability to remember words and keep in rhythm. Additionally, the 'Penguin Home for Tea' game is introduced, and the session concludes with 'I Wiggle My Fingers' and 'Goodbye Everyone'. While the children are not expected to perform perfectly at this stage, this lesson offers a valuable chance to observe their progress in chanting and pulse-keeping, and it is designed to boost their confidence in group work with clear goals and familiar material.
