Cops and Robbers - What do you know about light and the way it travels? - Light - Year 6
Science Resource Description
The 'Cops and Robbers' activity is a dynamic and engaging exercise designed to test and expand Year 6 pupils' knowledge about light and its properties. Initially, students are given two minutes to jot down everything they recall about light and how it travels. This phase encourages them to access their memory and demonstrate their understanding. After this, the game becomes more interactive as they are allocated 60 seconds to 'steal' ideas from their peers. Pupils may visit up to three classmates to read their responses and add any new information to the 'Stolen knowledge' column on their own table, thus promoting collaborative learning.
Students are incentivised to make accurate and relevant contributions with the promise of two points for each plausible statement they provide. The activity is designed to last for 15 minutes, allowing ample time for both personal reflection and the sharing of ideas. This exercise not only reinforces existing knowledge but also encourages the exchange of information, helping to fill gaps in understanding and correct any misconceptions. By the end of the session, pupils should have a richer and more rounded grasp of how light behaves and how our eyes interact with it to enable us to see.
