Cops and Robbers - What do you know about the summer? - Seasonal Change - Year 1
Science Resource Description
In an interactive activity designed for Year 1 students, the topic of seasonal change is explored with a focus on what children know about the summer season. This activity, titled "Cops and Robbers," encourages children to recall and share their knowledge in a playful and engaging manner. Initially, pupils are given two minutes to jot down everything they can remember about summer on their own. This phase of the activity allows students to independently access their memories and understanding of the season's characteristics.
Following this, the activity becomes more dynamic as students are given 60 seconds to 'steal' ideas from their peers. During this time, they can look at up to three other children's answers and add any new information they find to the 'stolen knowledge' column on their own table. This exercise not only promotes learning from one another but also introduces an element of excitement and urgency to the task. Each plausible statement written down by the pupils is rewarded with two points, and the entire activity is designed to last approximately 15 minutes. This engaging approach helps to reinforce the children's understanding of seasonal changes, particularly those that occur during summer, in a collaborative and fun environment.
