Show it! - Forces - Year 5
Science Resource Description
In a Year 5 lesson focused on forces, students explore the fundamental question: What is a force and how does it impact the way things move? As part of their learning journey, children are encouraged to delve into the concept of forces and their effects on motion. To culminate their studies, they are provided with an opportunity to showcase their understanding by presenting their findings to their classmates. This presentation can take various forms, ensuring that students can express their knowledge creatively and effectively. One method includes the use of a PowerPoint presentation, which may be prepared by the teaching staff to display the ongoing learning and facilitate a shared learning experience within the class.
To foster collaboration and communication skills, students are organised into small groups, with a maximum of six members per group, to prepare and deliver a presentation on specific aspects of forces. Each group chooses one topic from a list that includes gravity, air resistance, pulleys, levers, and gears. Through these presentations, students have the chance to engage with their peers, articulate their understanding of how different forces operate, and discuss the practical implications of these forces on the movement of objects. The activity not only reinforces the students' grasp of scientific concepts but also enhances their ability to convey complex information in an accessible and educational manner.
