Cops and robbers - What do you know about soil?

In an interactive classroom activity titled 'Cops and Robbers', pupils are encouraged to explore their knowledge of soil in a fun and engaging way. The game begins with students having two minutes to jot down everything they can remember about soil on their own. This initial phase allows them to recall and record their existing understanding without any external input, focusing on aspects like soil composition, its role in the ecosystem, and various soil types.

After this personal recall, the 'robbers' phase of the game commences. Here, students have 60 seconds to 'steal' knowledge from their peers. They can visit up to three classmates to read and borrow ideas, which they then add to the 'Stolen knowledge' column on their table. This collaborative element not only makes the activity dynamic but also fosters knowledge sharing among pupils. Each plausible statement they gather from others earns them points, incentivising them to pay attention to accurate and relevant information about soil. The entire activity is designed to last 15 minutes, combining individual recall with peer learning to deepen their understanding of soil and its various characteristics.
