Cops and robbers - What do you know about rocks?
Science Resource Description
The "Cops and robbers" activity is an engaging classroom exercise designed to test and enhance pupils' knowledge about the different types of rocks found on Earth. Initially, students are given a two-minute timeframe to jot down everything they can recall about rocks on their own. This section of the activity encourages them to draw from their memory and demonstrate their understanding of the subject matter without external influences.
Following this, the activity becomes more interactive as pupils are given 60 seconds to 'steal' ideas from their peers. They can approach up to three other students to view their answers and add any new information to the 'Stolen knowledge' column on their own table. This part of the exercise not only makes learning more dynamic but also promotes collaboration and idea-sharing among the students. Each plausible statement that a pupil writes down, whether from their own knowledge or borrowed from a classmate, is awarded two points. The entire activity is designed to last for 15 minutes, making it a quick and fun way to consolidate learning about the main types of rocks on our planet.
