Progression pedagogy - Space - Year 5

The progression pedagogy for a Year 5 Space unit is structured to enhance students' ability to know and retain information effectively. This method is designed to take students through a learning journey, starting with what they already know and building upon that foundation.

At the outset, 'Before the learning', students reflect on their existing knowledge about the Sun, Earth, Moon, and the Planets. This serves as a baseline for the new content they will encounter. 'During the learning', the approach encourages active engagement with the new material, ensuring that students not only learn the facts but understand them in context. 'At the end of the learning', there is an assessment phase where students' understanding is checked, providing immediate feedback on their progress. Finally, 'After the learning', the focus shifts to reinforcing and solidifying the knowledge, ensuring that the information is retained long-term.
